Is Clifton Hill’s ‘The Fun House’ worth the money?

What: The Fun House

Price: $13.99 for adults, $12.99 for kids 3-15 (children 2 and under are free)

Length: 20-30 minutes

Rundown: The Fun House is one of the smaller attractions on Clifton Hill, a bright yellow exterior that leads into a surprisingly byzantine series of themed rooms in the basement, including a room of mirrors, glow-in-the-dark sealife drawings, a slanted shipwreck floor, and several interactive games.

One of the many underground rooms in The Fun House. This room is a little more fun than the others.

Worth It? Not really, but with some exceptions. First: small kids will probably enjoy it. Our five- and two-year-old children were mesmerized, especially by some of the more atmospheric rooms (like the above-pictured dripping-light mirror space and the giant spinning wheel they could crawl inside at the very beginning).

This attraction is one of the worst-reviewed on Clifton, with attendees complaining about the steep price and short time. One critic said they walked through in about eight minutes. You can definitely do it that way! But why would you? We let out kids crawl around the giant hamster wheel thing for eight minutes at the very beginning, before we event descended into the real thing.

In other words: slow down and try to extract whatever fun you can. Encourage your kids to justify the high cost of entrance by not rushing from one thing to the next. If you can stretch the experience to $30, it’s a bit easier to stomach.

For older kids or anyone discouraged by the exploitative price tag, it’s an easy pass.
